ANNA POLANSKÁ

born 19. January 1973 in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic

Statement

Anna Polanská works with a molten glass, of which she creates applied shapes processed by the technique of cutting. Through sequential glass material withdrawing she defines the eventual mould characterized by the traces engraved by cutting wheels. Final optical features are not regarded as her main aim, but more as a natural result of the pursuit of shape. It can be said that especially theirs plasticity is the initial quality aspect for Anna Polanská’s objects.
Her production is tightly connected to her interest in a landscape and in a human being, and their basic mutual relations. With her endeavour to seek the archetypal shapes in her objects she resembles a prehistoric creator, in whose hands a flint engenders.
